What is the Anfitrión Art Residency?
The Anfitrión Art Residency is the artist-in-residence programme of Anfitrión Marbella, a beachfront boutique art hotel of villas and suites in Puerto Banús. It is Anfitrión’s annual call for contemporary artists.
Artists live and work at Anfitrión while they develop a new project inspired by Spain, its culture and its identity. Beyond being a gallery, Anfitrión hosts artists in residence, so guests and collectors can see the creative process first-hand. More about the programme on our Art Residence page.

The 2026/27 theme: Light and Sea
On the Costa del Sol, light changes from dawn to dusk, blurs the horizon and shapes how we see and remember. For the 2026/27 call, light is a material: artists are invited to work with light and the sea as subject, medium and metaphor, and to explore Spanish identity through a Mediterranean lens.
The theme is organised in four lines:
- Light as material: colour, transparency, shadow and time of day.
- The sea as threshold: the horizon, crossings, tides and shared histories.
- Memory and landscape: coastal identity, sense of place and belonging.
- Spain through the Mediterranean: culture, heritage and daily life by the water.

Who can apply
- Visual artists working in any discipline: painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, installation, textile, video, sound or mixed media.
- Artists of any nationality, over 21.
- Living in Spain, or holding a valid visa for the duration of the stay.
- Willing to explore and project the identity of Spain through contemporary art.

Life at Anfitrión during the residency
A residency at Anfitrión is time to create and time to rest. Artists work in natural light by the sea, in a studio of their own, and share their process with guests, collectors and fellow creatives.
Our aim is a safe space where artists and guests can rest, connect and talk. Every resident becomes part of the Anfitrión family. Read how earlier seasons worked in Artistic Residencies at Anfitrión.
